Briefly explained: The Scrum method
Scrum is the world’s best-known agile method. It defines itself merely as a framework, not as a process model. Compared to traditional approaches, Scrum consists of only a few rules.
Depending on the project, you can easily combine Scrum with other agile aspects or proven methods such as PRINCE2®. Project management training courses can also be combined with each other.
What roles are there in the Scrum method?
There is no classic project management in Scrum. Projects are implemented by a self-organizing team.
The so-called Scrum Master moderates the collaboration on the basis of the Scrum rules and practices. Another important role is played by the product owner. He or she represents the interests of the client or management. As a product owner, you manage the product requirements and the tasks to be completed in the product backlog.
What are the advantages of Scrum?
- Easy to understand and quick to implement
- Short project cycles (sprints), high flexibility
- Regular exchange, quick decisions
- Continuous improvement of process and product
- Low administrative and documentation costs
Where is Scrum used?
Scrum is particularly useful in complex software development and IT service management projects. The Scrum method is also used in hardware development and in the scientific field. Increasingly, even companies such as banks, energy suppliers and car manufacturers are working with Scrum. More and more teams from technical and non-technical areas – for example from marketing, administration or HR – are using the method or individual elements for their project management.
